Parks

Every day, BIDs clean and maintain a variety of District and National Park Service parks and public spaces. They also play a critical role in bringing stakeholders together to design, finance, and build dynamic and exciting urban parks enjoyed daily by thousands of visitors and residents. BID-managed parks are used for everything from outdoor movies to concert series and much more.

Workforce Development

BID hospitality and clean teams play a foundational role within the districts they serve, creating a safe and well-maintained public environment. Many of these workers are returning citizens who have transformed their lives and built their livelihoods through BID workforce development programs. Beyond providing employment, BIDs invest in training and other supportive services that help these workers develop new skills and capabilities.

Homeless Services

For over 20 years, DC BIDs have deeply invested in homeless outreach, working with government and provider partners to support people experiencing homelessness within their service areas and connecting them to housing. In 2019, the DowntownDC BID partnered with the DC government to open a state-of-the-art Downtown Daytime Services Center that offers a range of resources six days a week to help people get the help they need to connect with housing, employment, and health services.

Public Art

DC BIDs work with artists and creators to enliven public spaces with murals, sculptures, and other artforms. Embracing their role as curators and facilitators, BIDs collaborate with partners to create pieces that delight, inspire, and challenge.

Community Building

DC BIDs create and cultivate platforms and venues for stakeholders to connect across differences, learn about the city and its neighborhoods, participate in planning projects, enjoy music, arts and culture, and have a voice in the city’s future.

Small and Local Business Support

Small and local businesses are the heartbeat of DC’s commercial districts. The city’s BIDs support these businesses in myriad ways: providing a clearinghouse of information to help them access services and programs, investing in collective marketing that draws customers to neighborhood businesses, and maintaining a safe and visually appealing public environment for them to do business.

Mobility and Transportation

DC BIDs work with private and public sector partners to improve connectivity and transit options, and enhance mobility within and between neighborhoods. Additionally, BIDs work through DC Sustainable Transportation to make the District a global leader with frequent, fast, safe, affordable, and reliable transportation to, from, and around the city’s job centers.
